Lullaby (2014)

I composed Lullaby for Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, seen in the video above.
Getting to work with such a versatile, articulate group of vocalists was an especially enjoyable adventure for me.  I chose to play around in the sandbox of microtonal harmony, asking the group to sing sixth-tones and quarter-tones, i.e. three times more pitches than are on the piano.

I was inspired by Giacinto Scelsi's orchestral works from the late 60s.  Uaxuctum is a masterpiece. Though I did not set out to emulate his work, in retrospect I hear some influence here.
